Naxos is one of the most popular and frequently visited islands in the Cyclades, making it easily accessible by both air and sea. Travelers can reach the island by plane or by ferry from Athens, as well as from several other nearby Greek islands.
The island has its own national airport; however, the most common and preferred way to travel to Naxos is by ferry.
If you are arriving from another island, such as Santorini, Mykonos, or other Cycladic destinations, traveling by ferry is the only direct option available.

Naxos can be reached by ferry from numerous islands across the Aegean Sea, offering excellent connections for travelers exploring the Greek islands.
There are frequent ferry routes connecting Naxos with Athens, with departures available from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio. Rafina and Lavrio ports are located closer to Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos), while Piraeus Port is more convenient for those staying near the city center.
The duration of the ferry journey varies between approximately 4 and 9 hours, depending on the type of vessel, whether it is a conventional or high-speed ferry, and the specific route. Most visitors choose to travel to Naxos by ferry from Piraeus Port.
Naxos also has strong ferry connections with many popular Cycladic islands, including Santorini, Paros, Mykonos, Amorgos, Tinos, and several other destinations.
In addition, the local express ferry known as Skopelitis operates routes connecting Naxos with Amorgos and the islands of the Small Cyclades — Koufonisia, Donoussa, Schinoussa, and Iraklia — approximately six times per week.

From Athens
Naxos National Airport (JNX) operates domestic flights from Athens, Thessaloniki, and Heraklion, Crete.
Flights connecting Athens and Naxos are available throughout the year, with a travel time of approximately 40–45 minutes. Seasonal flights are also offered from Thessaloniki and Crete.
Although the airport does not accommodate international flights, travelers from abroad can fly to nearby islands such as Santorini or Mykonos and continue their journey to Naxos by ferry.
The airport enjoys a convenient location near Agios Prokopios, approximately 3 km from Naxos Town (Chora), providing easy access to the island’s main attractions and the port area.
